Mary Sumners

Mary Sumners paints snapshots of life. Whether the subjects are people, flowers or trees, her art reveals relationships. Composition and color convey closeness. Detail is not important, but emotion is.

Mary Sumners graduated with a BFA in Drawing and Painting from the Lamar Dodd School of Art at the University of Georgia in 1981. Her exit show, Social Beings, consisted of large paintings, usually 4x5 feet. Ms. Sumners paints smaller works now, usually half the size of her undergraduate works. But the underlying expression in each painting continues to be that of relationships.

Ms. Sumners has shown in Thomasville, Georgia, being one of a two-man show sponsored by the Thomasville Artists Collective. She has also exhibited in regional art shows as well as group shows in Albany, Tifton, Leesburg, Camilla and Shellman. Mary Sumners takes commissions of portraits, as well as painting “social beings” found in nature.
